Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. will be lending a hand in the fight against cancer this Friday night April

Murphy will be participating in the Hope Hoops Classic, a fundraiser dedicated to Logan High School freshman Skyler Miller. Miller, a starter on the LHS freshman football team and a member of the weight lifting team, who has been diagnosed with AML leukemia. Funds raised will be given to the American Cancer Society in Miller’s name.

The event will be held at Willie Akers Arena (Logan Memorial Fieldhouse) on Friday, April 12, beginning at 7 p.m. says this is not only a great way to give back, it’s also a great way to remember a loved one.

Broadcasting teacher and WLHS TV station manager Bill France said broadcasting student and WLHS TV anchor Jacob Adkins actually brought the idea to France’s attention.

“Jacob did a lot of the early work getting the event ready,” France said. “He was passionate about making this happen and he put in a lot of work.”

Adkins contacted enough past players to form two teams. These teams will face off in the charity basketball game. Cheerleading coach Michelle Akers has assembled an alumni cheerleader squad to cheer on the guys at the event.

“We hope the community shows up, see some players from the past suit up, and hit their home court while supporting a great cause,” France said.
